Moonrise Bagels - Stuffed Bagels in Greenwich Village

Another viral food sensation is causing lines on West 8th St. between 5th/6th Aves. We've already got both Culture and Madison Fair for frozen yogurt (good and very different). Now Moonrise Bagels, with three locations in the Hudson Valley, opened its first in New York City just a few weeks ago. What makes Moonrise unique? The bagels are stuffed.

No, they're not sliced-then-filled, nor are the fillings piped in through a hole like a jelly donut. The bagel dough actually surrounds the fillings, then is boiled-then-baked as traditional bagels are.

The fillings include Bacon (or Sausage or Vegan), Egg, and Cheese; Pastrami Reuben; Buffalo Chicken; and Cheese Pizza. Bagel varieties offered are Plain, Onion, Poppy, Sesame, and Everything. Your order also includes one of three dipping sauces: the mustardy house sauce called Mooney (great with breakfast-y bagels), Ranch, and Calabrian Chile Aioli.

Yes, they're tasty. The bagels are a nice size, fillings are generous, and the dipping sauces pack extra flavor. They're also popular. The shop's hours are 8 AM to Noon "or Until Sold Out." I walk by the shop quite frequently. I've never seen them make it to noon. In fact, sometimes they close for the day just to give their staff a rest!
